Karine Gilanyan ( Armenian Կարինե Գիլանյան , Karine Gilanjan ; born 1981 in Yerevan , Armenian SSR , Soviet Union ) is an Armenian pianist .

Life

Gilanyan was born into a family of musicians. From 1987 to 1998 she studied in the class of N. Agoronjan at the "Tchaikovsky" Music School for gifted children in the city of Yerevan. In the same year she was enrolled at the Yerevan State Conservatory "Komitas". She studied in the class of Igor Jawrjan. Karine Gilanyan defended her master's degree with distinction and was recommended by the commission for the concert exam, where she received a diploma as a soloist in 2005. In 2004 the pianist continued her studies at the Lübeck University of Music in the class of James Tocco. There she was a DAAD scholarship holder.

During her academic years, Gilanyan took master classes with Mattias Weber, Volker Banfield, Jeremy Menuhin, Ilana Vered, Eitan Globerson and Michael Lewin; Ensemble: Maria Egelhof, Rainer Moog, Marie Hallyng and Gustav Rivinius; Song accompaniment: Wolfram Rieger and Inge-Susanne Römhild.

In 1995 Gilanyan became a diplomat at the National Young Talent Competition "Amadeus". In 2010 she received the diploma in the international competition "Chopin-Roma" Italy. She has appeared at the “Sommerkampus Rostok” (Germany), “Pablo Casals Festival” (Prades, France), “Musicfest Perugia” (Italy), “Modern Music Festival” (Yerevan, Armenia) and “Monbijou Festival” (Berlin) festivals , Germany).

The range of styles she offers goes from Bach to György Ligeti and includes works by the classical composers, the romantics and the impressionists. In Armenia, some works by A. Schnittke, Görgy Ligeti and the modern Armenian composers were premiered. She has performed as a soloist and ensemble member in Armenia, Hungary, Italy, France and Germany. Karine Gilanyan has appeared with the chamber orchestra “Solisti di Perugia” and the Philharmonic Orchestra of Armenia.

Karine Gilanyan worked as a répétiteur and piano teacher in institutions such as the Yerevan Conservatory Komitas, New Music School Bernau, State Ballet School Berlin and the Music Academy "Hanns Eisler" Berlin. Since October 2011 she has been teaching at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin.

In March 2012 she received an award from the Republic of Armenia for her services in promoting Armenian classical music abroad, the Komitas Medal.
