Ruslan Nigmatullin ( Russian Руслан Каримович Нигматуллин , Tatar Руслан Кәрим улы Нигъмәтуллин / Ruslan Karim Uli Nigmätullin * 7. October 1974 in Kazan , RSFSR , USSR ) is a former Russian football goalkeeper of Tatar origin.

Life

Nigmatullin began playing football for the Elektron club in his native Kazan. From 1992 he played for Kamas Naberezhnye Chelny , in 1995 he moved to Spartak Moscow . With Spartak he was two Russian champions , but could not assert himself as a regular player. It was only after moving to Lokomotiv Moscow in 1997 that he became a regular goalkeeper in this team and won the Russian Cup with Lokomotiv in the 1999/2000 and 2000/2001 seasons . In 2001 he was voted Footballer of the Year in Russia .

In 2002 he played briefly in Italy for Hellas Verona and returned to Russia for CSKA Moscow the same year . In 2003 he moved again to Italy, this time in Serie B for Salernitana Calcio . After brief guest appearances for Lokomotiv Moscow and Terek Grozny , Nigmatullin initially announced his retirement from professional sport in 2005. From 2008 he played again as a professional, first with SKA Rostov , then later in the second team of Lokomotiv Moscow. In 2009 he moved to Israel to Maccabi Ahi Nazareth and finally ended his career in November 2009.

Nigmatullin made 24 caps for the Russian national team . He took part in the Soccer World Cup in 2002 and was used in all three preliminary round matches during this tournament.
