Karl Christ Prize

The Karl Christ Prize is dedicated to the memory of the Marburg ancient historian Karl Christ (1923–2008). The award recognizes outstanding scientific achievements in the field of ancient history and its neighboring disciplines as well as the history of science and reception in ancient times.

The prize is endowed with 25,000 euros and is awarded every two years. The prize money comes from an anonymous donor. Members of universities and academies as well as professional associations and scientific associations have the right to make proposals. Self-nomination is not possible. Voting members of the committee responsible for awarding the prize are Stefan Rebenich (Chairman, University of Bern ), Hartmut Leppin ( University of Frankfurt ) and Andreas Rödder ( University of Mainz ). The prize is awarded alternately in Frankfurt am Main and Bern. The speeches of the award winners will be published by Verlag Antike , which has been part of the Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht publishing group since 2018 .
