Elke Stein-Hölkeskamp

Elke Stein-Hölkeskamp (born November 24, 1954 in Witten ) is a German ancient historian.

Life

Elke Stein-Hölkeskamp started in July 1985 with a thesis on the topic of aristocratic culture and polis society. PhD studies on Greek nobility in archaic and classical times at the University of Munich . She was a private lecturer at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen , where she represented the chair for ancient history. Since 2015 she has been a private lecturer and since 2016 an adjunct professor at the Historical Institute of the University of Duisburg-Essen , where she also teaches ancient history. Stein-Hölkeskamp also teaches as a private lecturer in the field of ancient history at the Westphalian Wilhelms University . In the summer semester of 2012, she held a substitute professorship in Ancient History at the University of Basel . From the winter semester 2012/13 to the summer semester 2014 she was a substitute professor for ancient history at the University of Siegen . In 2016/17 she is visiting professor for ancient cultural history at LMU Munich.

Stein-Hölkeskamp is married to the ancient historian Karl-Joachim Hölkeskamp , with whom she published several works on Roman and Greek antiquity. Among other things, she worked on the study book History of Antiquity, published in 2006 in the second edition by Hans-Joachim Gehrke and Helmuth Schneider . In 2017 she and her husband were awarded the Karl Christ Prize .
