Karl-Heinrich Büchsel

Karl-Heinrich Büchsel (* 1922 in Schweicheln ; † 2009 in Wolfenbüttel ) was a German church musician and composer .

Life

Karl-Heinrich Büchsel received his first organ lessons from Martin-Günther Förstemann and piano lessons from Werner Tell. In 1941 he began studying theology in Bethel and Erlangen , which he broke off after a short time. After working as a cantor and youth leader in Ibbenbüren , he successfully completed his studies at the regional church music school in Herford and the University of Music in Cologne. From 1955 to 1962 he then took up a position as cantor at St. Maria zur Wiese (Soest) . In 1962 he became regional church music director of the Braunschweiger Ev.-luth. Regional Church and held this position until his retirement in 1987.

In addition to his position as regional church music director, he worked as an organist at St. Trinitatis Church (Wolfenbüttel) and led choirs, first at the Braunschweig Cathedral , then at St. Magni (Braunschweig) and, in parallel, in Wolfenbüttel, his youth choir, the youth choir.

After his retirement in 1987, he worked as cantor at St. Pankratius Church in Hankensbüttel for 13 years .

Karl-Heinrich Büchsel also devoted himself intensively to composing. His works include choral music , motets as well as sacred and secular movements. He composed three oratorios , many organ works and chamber music. He founded Singwoche, an association to promote church choir work.
