Karl-Heinz Bauer

Karl-Heinz Bauer (born August 19, 1958 in Neuötting ) is a German doctor. Since October 1, 2003, he has been the chief physician of the surgery clinic at the Knappschaftskrankenhaus Dortmund in the Westphalia Clinic . In 2006 Bauer was appointed medical director of the house. At the same time, he has been responsible for VfL Bochum as a club doctor since 1999 and teaches at the Technical University of Dortmund .

Career

After graduating from high school, Bauer initially worked as a medical-technical assistant (MTA) (laboratory) before he began studying medicine at the Ruhr University in Bochum , which he completed in 1986. The doctorate took place in 1987 on the topic: "Investigation of the function of technically different designed double-barreled colostomies ". In 2001, Bauer also completed his habilitation on a subject in the field of metabolism by analyzing the ability of the operation-related immunosuppression to be influenced by preoperative enteral immunutrition in elective epigastric surgery. In addition to four specialist degrees in general surgery, trauma surgery, visceral surgery as well as orthopedics and trauma surgery, he also has additional qualifications in sports medicine and special trauma surgery.

From 1992, Bauer initially worked as a senior physician in the surgical clinic of the St. Josef Hospital University Clinic. During his time as senior physician, he treated patients in the Trauma Surgery Clinic - Unfallklinik Dortmund and in the University Clinic St. Josef-Hospital, Bochum, where he was also appointed Senior Consultant in 1998. Bauer first became chief physician in 2000 at the Giradet Clinic in Essen. Since 2003 he has been the chief physician of the surgical clinic at the Knappschaftskrankenhaus Dortmund. There he was appointed medical director by the hospital operator at the suggestion of his chief physician colleagues. In 2016 the Technical University of Dortmund awarded him the title of professor. In the same year Bauer was elected President of the Association of Lower Rhine-Westphalian Surgeons.
