The house of the Marx family in Simeongasse 1070 was the center of life for Karl Marx in Trier during his youth . Today a plaque commemorates the famous resident.

Karl Marx was born in what is now Brückenstraße 10, where his parents rented their home. This birthplace, known as the Karl Marx House , now houses a permanent exhibition on the life and aftermath of Karl Marx.

On October 1, 1819, the lawyer Heinrich Marx , Karl Marx's father, bought the small house in Simeongasse not far from Porta Nigra from his colleague, the Privy Councilor of Justice Peter Schwarz, for 18,987 francs and 20 cents in installments The family moved there from Brückengasse. The property tax was initially 7 Reichstaler 21 Groschen and 3 Pfennigs. Sophia , Karl, Hermann , Henriette , Louise , Emilie and Caroline were baptized in this house on August 26, 1824. His brother Eduard Marx died here on December 14, 1837. Karl Marx lived in this house until he graduated from high school in autumn 1835. On June 23, 1841, when Karl Marx signed the draft of an inheritance agreement, the house was worth 4,000 thalers. Henriette Marx was last mentioned in the Trier address book at this address at the end of 1850. Your next address at the end of 1852 is “Simeonstrasse 9”, at the end of 1855 “Weberbachstrasse III.17” and at the end of 1857 “Fleischstrasse 39”, so that the sale of the house between 1851 and 1852 can be assumed.
