Karl May Cave
The Karl May Cave , also known as the iron cave or robber cave , is a cave in the Waldenburger Oberwald district outside the town of Hohenstein-Ernstthal in the Saxon district of Zwickau .
The cave, now a monument, dates back to mining in the area and dates back to 1620. Already in the 18th century it was used by robber gangs as a hideout and called the robber cave.
In 1869, when the 27-year-old Karl May (1842–1912) came into conflict with the law on several occasions because of theft , he used this cave as a hideout and hiding place for his belongings.
