Karl von Reitzenstein (playwright)
Karl Freiherr von Reitzenstein (* before 1792, † after 1795) was a German playwright .
Life
The playwright's identity has not yet been clearly clarified, and the exact living conditions are unknown.
One of Reitzenstein's pieces is the tragedy Die Negerclaven from 1793: A slave revolt breaks out under the leadership of the English plantation owner Donald . But he has to recognize that anarchy is the wrong way out of oppression, because shortly afterwards the news arrives that the English parliament has decided on the gradual abolition of slavery. The late realization can no longer prevent the tragic course.
