Karl Gerhardts

Karl Gerhardts (born January 18, 1892 , † 1961 ) was a German gymnastics and sports functionary.

Gerhardts came from the Haan gymnastics club in 1863 , which his uncle had co-founded. His first activity in the club was, besides active gymnastics, that of the contribution cashier. He was wounded near Namur at the beginning of the First World War and from then on could no longer do gymnastics himself.

After the First World War he was game manager of the Niederbergischer Turngau and on the management committee of the Turnkreis VIIIb of the German Gymnastics Association . He was involved in the organization of numerous gymnastics festivals.

Gerhardts initially worked in the German Gymnastics Working Committee from 1950 to 1962 and was deputy federal chairman of the German Gymnastics Federation (DTB) and was involved in its reconstruction after the Second World War.

In November 1952, Gerhardts evaluated the performance of the German Olympic gymnasts.

Gerhardts was the closest employee of the chairman of the German Gymnastics Federation Walter Kolb and was also referred to as the "Minister of the Interior" of the DTB.

In December 1961 he died of a stroke.
