Karl Hötzer

Karl Hötzer (born June 12, 1892 in Balingen , † 1969 in Tübingen ) was a dialect , local poet, story writer and teacher.

Life and work

Karl Hötzer was born as the son of a Balingen teacher. Like his father, he took up the profession of elementary school teacher. There are three known cities where he taught:

Due to illness, Hötzer had to retire early. Karl Hötzer was married to Gertrud Hötzer. A son Ulrich is known from the marriage. During his lifetime he wrote countless poems and stories about his homeland. He brought out several books with collections of poetry and history. Hötzer cultivated a friendship with Matthias Koch , who was also a teacher (including in Tübingen) and local poet.

Relations with National Socialism

From 1935 Hötzer was a member of the National Socialist People's Welfare (NSV), from 1937 a member of the NSDAP , and a member of the National Socialist Teachers' Association (NSLB). In the course of denazification , Hötzer was classified as a follower in the panel proceedings . In 2001, a discussion broke out about Hötzer's closeness to National Socialism, which led to the Hötzersaal in the Balingen town hall being renamed the “small hall”.
