Karl Heckmann (local researcher)

Karl Heckmann (born January 19, 1866 in Nümbrecht ; † 1943 ibid) was a German homeland researcher .

Life

Karl Heckmann was born on January 19, 1866, the son of the Nümbrecht innkeeper and baker Johann Heinrich Heckmann. After studying history, geography and German at the University of Bonn and a study trip to Mexico, Heckmann worked as a high school teacher in Wuppertal . It was not until his retirement in 1928 that the actual research work began, which found expression in several works and also allowed him to find various historical pieces, such as B. 16th century wafer seal. In 1943, in his native Nümbrecht, he closed his life circle and died in the house in which he was born. His grave is in the cemetery in Nümbrecht, which is maintained by the Heimatverein . The following slogan from Fontane is written on his gravestone : "He is deeply loyal to those who love their homeland like you."
