Karl Heinrich Dittmann

Karl Heinrich Dittmann (born August 18, 1907 in Hamburg , † 1945 missing) was a German prehistorian and Egyptologist .

After graduating from high school in Hamburg, he first studied history and antiquity at the University of Hamburg from 1926 and at the same time worked for Gustav Schwantes as a volunteer assistant at the Museum of Ethnology and Prehistory . From 1927 he studied at the University of Heidelberg . In addition to prehistory and early history, he studied Egyptology and classical archeology. In July 1931 he received his doctorate under Ernst Wahle with the thesis "Investigations into the history of the older Bronze Age in Northwest Germany". In 1932/33 he received the Wülfing scholarship with which he came to Egypt. Here he was then active in numerous excavations.
