Karl Kilbom

Karl Kilbom (born May 8, 1885 ; † 1961 , also Kihlbom) was a Swedish, communist , later social democratic politician.

Kilbom joined the Swedish Social Democratic Labor Party in 1908 . There he belonged to the left wing of the party around Zeth Höglund . During the split in 1917, he joined the Swedish Social Democratic Left Party, which was renamed the Swedish Communist Party in 1921 .

In the internal party disputes of the 1920s, Kilbom, who was general secretary of the party from 1921 to 1922, positioned himself against the ultra-left wing and oriented himself on the “Right Opposition” in the Soviet Union around Nikolai Bukharin . For this reason Kilbom and the majority of the Communist Party were expelled from the Comintern in 1929 , this majority constituted itself as an independent CP (popularly known as "Kilbommare" because Kilbom was party chairman from 1929 to 1937), which formed in Sosialistiska Partiet (SP ), first the IVKO and then the London officebelonged and achieved higher results in elections than the official KP around Hugo Sillén. In the following period Kilbom's positions developed again in the direction of social democracy, a strong group around Kilbom joined them after leaving the party in 1938 and supported their government policy.
