Karl Wenzel Klima (born February 5, 1908 in Vienna , Austria-Hungary , † April 11, 1966 in Graz , Austria ) was an Austrian football player . Together with his older brother Hans Klima , to distinguish it from the word Klima II , he won the Austrian championship twice with Admira . As a later legionnaire in France, he managed to score the first goal in Division 1 history .

Career

When Karl Klima joined Admira in 1921 at the age of thirteen, his older brother had already been a regular at the club and one of the pillars of the team that made it up to first class . Karl Klima never succeeded in stepping out of the shadow of his brother, but between 1926 and 1928 he managed to establish himself as a left winger at Toni Schall's side and was able to celebrate two championships and one cup win . Ultimately, however, Karl Klima said goodbye to professional football in 1928 and went to the comparatively small provincial club SK Sturm Graz . With Sturm he never managed to qualify for the amateur championship - local rivals GAK were too strong - but he did play a few selection games for the Styrian Association.

In 1932 Karl Klima accepted an offer from France, where the French professional championship was about to take place for the first time. Until 1935 he stormed for Olympique Antibes , in his first year he was the fifth best scorer in the league with 13 goals and his goal on matchday 1 (September 11, 1932) after 8 minutes made himself the first scorer of the French football championship . The French station abroad was followed by Czechoslovakia with SK Židenice from Brno, with whom he eliminated Rapid in the Mitropacup, among other things , before he returned to Graz in 1937. There Karl Klima found a job with the railway and was able to conveniently spend his career end at SV Südbahn Graz - later known as the first division team under the name ESV Austria Graz.
