Karl Lüdecke (chemist)

Karl Robert Lüdecke (* 1880 ; † 1955 ) was a German chemist.

Lüdecke received his doctorate in 1905 at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich (on the knowledge of glycerol phosphoric acid and lecithin). As early as 1904 he published with Richard Willstätter on lecithin .

He went to the United Chemical Works in Berlin-Charlottenburg (which emerged from the company of Benno Jaffé von Ludwig Darmstaedter and dealt with fat chemistry). There he and Wilhelm Connstein invented an industrial method of glycerine production in 1914 , which was of great importance for the production of explosives in Germany during the First World War.

In 1919 he and Connstein received the Adolf von Baeyer memorial coin , one of the highest awards from the Society of German Chemists.
