from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The parliamentary elections in Niger in 2004 took place on December 4, 2004. The 113 members of the National Assembly of Niger were elected .

background

The parliamentary elections took place regularly at the end of the five-year legislative period of the National Assembly. The election date coincided with that of the runoff election in the 2004 presidential election , which the incumbent President Mamadou Tandja ( MNSD-Nassara ) and the opposition leader Mahamadou Issoufou ( PNDS-Tarayya ) faced. Compared to the previous parliamentary elections in 1999 , the number of seats in the National Assembly was increased from 83 to 113, which was justified by the strong population growth. Education, employment and the health system were among the central themes of the election campaign.
