The parliamentary elections in Niger in 1965 took place on October 21, 1965. The fifty members of the National Assembly of Niger were elected .

background

The parliament of Niger was last elected in the elections to the Territorial Assembly in 1958 . All seats had gone to the Nigerien Progressive Party (PPN-RDA), which was formed as a unity party . The Territorial Assembly became the Constituent Assembly in 1958 , the Legislative Assembly in 1959, and finally the National Assembly in 1960 . As such, she accompanied Niger to independence from France in the same year .

The 1965 parliamentary elections were neither competitive nor free . Only candidates on a PPN-RDA list were allowed. President Hamani Diori (PPN-RDA) had himself confirmed in office shortly before, in the presidential elections on September 30, 1965 .

Results

Of 1,709,605 registered voters, 1,679,196 officially went to the polls. This corresponds to a voter turnout of 98.2%. 1,677,763 ballot papers (99.9%) were considered valid and 1,433 (0.1%) were considered invalid.

consequences

Boubou Hama (PPN-RDA) remained Speaker of the National Assembly. The legislative period lasted five years, as planned, until the parliamentary elections on October 22, 1970 .
