background
The parliament of Niger was last elected in the elections to the Territorial Assembly in 1958 . All seats had gone to the Nigerien Progressive Party (PPN-RDA), which was formed as a unity party . As such, she accompanied Niger to independence from France in the same year .
The 1965 parliamentary elections were neither competitive nor free . Only candidates on a PPN-RDA list were allowed. President Hamani Diori (PPN-RDA) had himself confirmed in office shortly before, in the presidential elections on September 30, 1965 .
