The parliamentary elections in Niger in 1970 took place on October 22, 1970. The fifty members of the National Assembly of Niger were elected .

During the First Republic (1960–1974) there was a one-party system of the Nigerien Progressive Party (PPN-RDA) under President Hamani Diori . The parliamentary elections of 1970 were neither competitive nor free . Only candidates on a PPN-RDA list were allowed. The women's organization Union des Femmes du Niger tried unsuccessfully to have women on the list. The elections took place at the end of the planned five-year legislative period of the National Assembly. President Hamani Diori had recently been re-elected in the presidential elections on October 1, 1970 .

Results

Of the 1,906,283 registered voters, 1,851,146 officially went to the polls. This corresponds to a voter turnout of 97.1%. 1,850,968 ballot papers were considered valid and 178 were considered invalid.

consequences

On November 21, 1970, President Hamani Diori reshuffled the government. Boubou Hama remained in office as President of the National Assembly . The First Republic ended on April 15, 1974 with the coup d'état by Seyni Kountché , which also dissolved the National Assembly. During the Régime d'exception (1974–1989) there was no Nigerien parliament.
