The Union for Democracy and Republic ( French Union pour la Démocratie et la République-Tabbat , abbreviation: UDR-Tabbat ) is a political party in Niger .

history

The Union for Democracy and Republic was created in September 1999 under the leadership of Amadou Boubacar Cissé as a split from the Alliance for Democracy and Progress (RDP-Jama'a). Until then, Cissé had been the vice chairman of the RDP-Jama'a.

In the parliamentary elections of 2004 , the UDR-Tabbat managed to get into the National Assembly in an electoral alliance led by the Nigerien Party for Democracy and Socialism (PNDS-Tarayya) . The parliamentary elections of 2009 were boycotted by the UDR-Tabbat as well as by the larger opposition parties in protest against President Mamadou Tandja . The party was one of the vocal opponents of Tandja, who was overthrown in a 2010 coup. Amadou Boubacar Cissé ran in the 2011 presidential election , where he received 1.6% of the vote. As of the parliamentary elections in 2011 , the UDR-Tabbat was represented with six of 113 seats in the National Assembly. In the same year, the party formed an alliance with 32 other political parties and groups, which agreed on common principles and agreed to support the government of the newly elected President Mahamadou Issoufou (PNDS-Tarayya) in their projects. In the parliamentary elections of 2016 , the UDR-Tabbat won two of 171 seats in the National Assembly. In the 2016 presidential election , Amadou Boubacar Cissé was ninth of fifteen candidates.
