Karl Nikolai von Nolcken

Karl Nikolai von Nolcken (born February 2, 1830 in Köljal / Kõljala , Ösel ; † January 22, 1913 in Arensburg , Ösel) was a German-Baltic pastor , translator, linguist and folklorist.

Life

Nolcken, a son of the landowner Alexander von Nolcken, studied history at the University of Dorpat (1850-1852) and first worked as a secretary of the district court and notary for the knight chancellery in Arensburg. From 1860 to 1864 he studied theology in Dorpat. From 1867 until his retirement in 1901 he was pastor in Peude on Ösel . Theologically, he advocated confessional Lutheranism .

Publications

Nolcken published poems and theological treatises, as well as two children's books in Estonian: Aabitsaraamat and Aabitsaraamatu sissejuhatus .
