Karl Pilny

Karl Pilny (* 1960 ) is a German lawyer and writer.

Life

Pilny studied law at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich from 1979 to 1985. He then worked at the Max Planck Institute for Intellectual Property , Tax and Competition Law in Munich as a consultant for Japan; In 1986/87 he worked for the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Tokyo .

From 1989 Pilny was a lawyer at a law firm in Osaka and taught German law as a visiting lecturer at the Universities of Kyoto and Osaka. In 1991 he moved to Coudert Brothers , whose Berlin office he founded in 1995. In 2001, also in Berlin, he founded the Germany office of Travers Smith as a managing partner . He has been a consultant for Salans LLP since 2006 and publishes non-fiction and novels. His thriller Japan Inc. , published in 2011, deals with the war crimes of the Japanese unit 731 and the difficult way Japan has dealt with its history to this day and thus draws an arc right through to the Fukushima nuclear disaster . His second thriller, Korea Inc. from 2015, focuses on the totalitarian injustice regime in North Korea.
