Karl the Beetle is a protest song by the music group Goose Bumps .

background

The song deals with people's negative treatment of nature at a time when forest dying was a hot topic in Germany . At that time, ecological groups and initiatives were formed that dealt with environmental issues. The song describes how reckless people are when it comes to creating living space for themselves. Karl the Beetle , who previously lived peacefully in the forest , has to leave his home because he was driven out by people who then drive down the streets with tin beetles .

Gerald Dellmann wrote the text, Dieter Roesberg wrote the music , and Thomas Brück produced the title. The single was released in 1983 on the Papagayo label .

reception

On April 25, 1983, the song reached number 23 in the German single charts. It was placed for 17 weeks. Goosebumps appeared with the song on May 30, 1983 in the ZDF hit parade , but could not place in the top three. On January 21, 1984, however, an appearance on the special program The Super Hit Parade - Hits of the Year '83 followed .
