Carmel de la Paix in Mazille

The Carmelite Mazille since 1971 a convent of Carmelite nuns in Mazille , Saône-et-Loire , in the Diocese of Autun in France .

history

The Carmelite convent, which had existed in Chalon-sur-Saône since 1610 and which no longer found the necessary quiet in the urban environment, decided to move to Mazille in 1967. In 1971 the new building planned by the architect Josep Lluís Sert was moved into. The monastery is called Carmel de la Paix ("Peace Carmel "). The nuns, who earn their livelihood from their own farms and paying guests, place particular emphasis on liturgical chant (influenced by the composer Marcel Godard, 1920–2007), as well as on ecumenism and interreligious dialogue.
