history

After the Karrar was presented to the public, the military leadership announced the start of series production on March 12, 2017. However, this has not yet happened, nor has specific production figures been given.

The news agency Tasnim News Agency against Brigadier General Kiomars Heidari announced in 2017, the delivery of the Karrar be launched 2018th

development

The main armament of the Karrar consists of a 125 mm smooth- barreled cannon equipped with a smoke evacuator . A remote-controlled weapon station on the tower is equipped with a 12.7 mm machine gun. The main weapon is said to be able to fire laser-guided anti - tank missiles . An automatic loading device is also installed, which saves the need for a loader.

According to Iranian sources, the Karrar should be equipped with the latest reactive armor on the front of the hull and the turret. There is also armor plate on the top of the landing gear and cage armor on the back of the hull and turret. External fuel tanks can be mounted at the rear to increase the range of the vehicle by 280 km.

Similar to Russian tanks

Defense Minister Hossein Dehghan stated that “the tank can compete with the most advanced tanks in the world in three main areas of performance, precision and mobility, but also in terms of maintenance and endurance on the battlefield. The Karrar has the ability to fire missiles and steer them precisely [on target]. Furthermore, the gunner and the commander can operate the Karrar from two parallel sights ”.

"It is no coincidence that specialists see the Karrar as a copy of the Russian T-90MS , the most advanced variant of the T-90," said GenMaj. a. D. Vladimir Bogatyrev, Chairman of the Commission of the Russian National Association of Retired Officers. He also added, “It is based on the T-72 platform, but also has some of the US Abrams and M-60 tanks. Some elements were carried over from the M-48 and the British Chieftain tank. They took up all of these elements and tried to design their own tank from them. "
