Karsten Lüders

Karsten Lüders (born June 17, 1957 ) is a former German football player who was active in the GDR league , the second highest division in GDR football, in the 1970s and 1980s .

Athletic career

At the age of 18, Karsten Lüders played his first competitive games in 1975 in the GDR league team of 1. FC Union Berlin . He made his debut in the promotion round to the GDR Oberliga with two short appearances in the last two promotion games, in which the East Berliners gambled away with two defeats. For the 1975/76 season, Lüders was included in the official squad of 1. FC Union, but was only used irregularly in twelve of the 22 league games. Union qualified again for the league promotion round and this time made the promotion, Lüders was not included in these games.

1. FC Union Berlin was able to assert itself in the league for four seasons, but Lüders did not appear in the squad of the league team during this time, nor was he used in the league games. Instead, he was part of the junior league team every season . He played there in defense, mainly in the 1978/79 and 1979/80 seasons he had numerous failures. In 1980 1. FC Union rose again from the league and appeared again in the GDR league in the 1980/81 season. Lüders was still not part of the first team, he played with Union II, the former Oberliga youth team, in the third-class East Berlin district league , where he was used as a defender as before.

From the 1981/82 season on, Lüders played for the GDR league club SG Dynamo Fürstenwalde . He played six seasons for the police sports community. In Fürstenwalde , too , he was used in the defense all the time, but was called up there in a wide variety of positions. He did not succeed in a season without failures. In the 168 league games from 1981/82 to 1986/87, he was only used in 82 matches. In the 34 games of the 1984/85 season, Lüders only played nine league games in the first half of the season, and in his last league season in 1986/87 he was only called up three times in the second half of the season.

At the age of 30, Lüders ended his career in higher-class football, in which he had played 94 GDR league games and scored nine goals as a defensive player. Later he worked as a trainer for the Berlin soccer teams Marzahner SV and Wartenberger SV. For the Wartenberger SV he was also active in the 40 age group.
