Carousel was an early evening television show on Swiss television from 1977 to 1988. The chorus of the song The Old Nickelodeon Sound by the British pop group Sailor served as the theme song .

history

The program was first broadcast on April 5, 1977. It was initially broadcast twice (Tuesdays and Thursdays), three times from September 1978, four times from January 1980 and five times a week from January 7, 1985. The program was last broadcast on June 10, 1988.

The previous evening broadcast wanted to have a columnar character and dealt with very heterogeneous topics from the areas of information (news), science and entertainment. In order to obtain information, the editorial team sometimes worked with the editorial staff of Tagesschau and Blickpunkt , and exchanged contributions and excerpts. The show had the headings: lightning rods , Heidi is looking for places for animals with Heidi Abel (until 1982) and specials (from 1980).

The show was moderated alternately by the moderators Urs Emmenegger , Philipp Flury , Rosemarie Pfluger , Beat Rauch , Kurt Schaad and, from 1981, by Kurt Aeschbacher .

The show generated a number of spin-offs such as “Heidi Abel is looking for places for animals”, “Show box”, “Consultation hours” and “News from space”. The broadcast of September 4, 1978 reported on the first tattoo studio in Switzerland, run by Dietmar "Dischy" Gehrer.
