Heidi Abel (born February 21, 1929 in Basel , † December 23, 1986 in Zurich ) was a Swiss announcer and presenter who achieved star status in the course of her career in German-speaking Switzerland .

Life

Heidi Abel was the only daughter of a musician. After graduating from the girls' high school and training at the Basel School of Applied Arts , she initially worked as an operator and announcer at the Radibus radio and cable company in Basel. In 1954 she went to Swiss television as one of the first announcers . In the course of her career, Heidi Abel has hosted programs in children's and youth programs such as The world is round , What one knows and yet does not know and a large number of news, discussion and entertainment programs, such as Wer häts? , Test , Tonight in ... , Heidi Abel is looking for places for animals in the show Karussell (1977–1982), music and guests or telefilm . Most recently, the best-known and most popular Swiss television woman edited and hosted the television show Karambuli .

In 1965 she moderated the fifth German Schlager Festival together with Ursula von Manescul in Baden-Baden . Heidi Abel could also be heard on the Swiss Radio DRS , for example in the talk show Personal , in music for a guest and at the request concert. On September 25, 1986 she hosted the TV news magazine DRS aktuell for the last time . Less than three months later, she died of spinal cord cancer at the age of 57.

Heidi Abel received numerous awards for her work (1956 award from Spanish television as best speaker, 1976 MUT award for special services to human, environmental and animal protection, 1983 Tele award for interviewing in the program Telefilm ). In 2000, Heidi Abel was voted "TV woman of the century" by a TV magazine.

In 1986 the innovation fund of the Foundation for Adapted Technology and Social Ecology (SATS) of the Eco Center in Langenbruck was established through the legacy of Heidi Abel . A path was named after her near the headquarters of Swiss television in Zurich-Seebach .
