history

Construction of the barracks on the south-eastern outskirts of Wreschen began in 1902 after ethnic tensions between the German administration and the Polish population had developed in 1901 (" Wreschener school strike "). First the buildings on Kaiser-Wilhelm-Strasse were built, later the buildings at the rear. Construction lasted until 1910. An approximately square area of approximately twelve hectares was built on and fenced off. The fence consists of metal stakes between brick fence pillars. Later on, the buildings were expanded and new residential buildings were built for the officers.

Since 1903 the III. Battalion of the Infantry Regiment "Graf Kirchbach" (1st Lower Silesia) No. 46 garrisoned. A hospital was opened in 1913 under the direction of medical officer Dr. Roughly furnished. In 1922 the barracks were occupied by the Polish 68th Infantry Regiment, which later also took over border protection tasks. After Poland's military defeat in September 1939, the barracks initially housed various replacement battalions of the German Wehrmacht. In 1944 the commandant's office for fortress section 44 in military district XXI was established in the barracks . After the German defeat in World War II , the Soviet Army ( northern group of troops ) was stationed in the barracks until 1992 . During this time, a number of renovations and new buildings were carried out, which greatly changed the face of the ensemble. The south-western part with the officers' houses was separated from the barracks complex.

Further renovations took place after 1992. There is now a vocational school, sports facilities and a swimming pool on the site.
