Cascadia

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Cascadia extends over the US states of Washington and Oregon and the Canadian province of British Columbia

Kaskadien ( English and Spanish Cascadia ) is a region in the Pacific Northwest of North America , which is separated from the surrounding drier climatic regions by the cascade chain. It includes areas of British Columbia in Canada and the US states of Washington and Oregon , with the metropolitan area around Vancouver and Seattle and along Interstate 5 .

There have been repeated efforts to establish an independent state in the region. US President Thomas Jefferson , who sent the Lewis and Clark expedition there to explore the area in 1803 , pursued this idea, which is still expressed today in various secession movements and initiatives for extensive cooperation and participation processes, and also in reflects the Ökotopia novels by Ernest Callenbach .
