Kaspar Förster the Elder

Kaspar Förster the Elder (* around 1574, † 1652 in Gdansk ) was Kapellmeister and composer in Gdansk.

From 1606 Förster worked as a cantor and librarian at the grammar school in Danzig. From 1627 to 1652 he was Kapellmeister of the Marienkirche . In addition to his church office, he ran a bookshop. He was involved in a long argument with the organist of the Marienkirche, Paul Siefert . Before his death he converted to the Catholic denomination. His son and successor in office was Kaspar Förster the Younger .
