Kasperl as Garibaldi

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kasperl as Garibaldi is a drama written by Franz von Pocci . It is about Kasperl Larifari, who, in order to avoid arrest, disguises himself as the Italian guerrilla fighter Giuseppe Garibaldi .

action

Mayor Salzmaier has had enough of complaints and complaints coming from everywhere about the Kasperl, who for example does not pay rent, beat his wife or destroy a market stall. He wants to have him arrested for good. Ratschreiber Spritzler, a friend of Kasperl, warns him. Together they decide that Kasperl should disguise himself as the Italian conqueror Garibaldi , who is currently on the march and whom the mayor is terrified.

One day later, Kasperl has to be questioned. Just as they are about to condemn him, there is suddenly unrest outside because a (false) report has surfaced that Garibaldi would soon be coming to the mayor. Kasperl, who escaped in the excitement, comes back to the mayor's office disguised as Garibaldi. Although Kasperl speaks an extremely incorrect pseudo-Italian (for example, he says "Sauerkrautio" when he demands sauerkraut) and also pronounces the name constantly as "Barigaldi", the mayor and even Kasperl's wife Margareth tremble before the supposed enemy.

After Kasperl has left the office to eat the food that the frightened people have ordered, the camouflage is blown: his landlord, the tailor Bock, comes in, recognizes Kasperl immediately and tells the astonished mayor and Margareth the truth. When Kasperl comes back, he learns that he has been exposed. Those present pounce on the raging Kasperl, who still claims to be "Barigaldi".
