Ulysses Anton Freiherr von Salis-Soglio (* July 1792 in Soglio , Switzerland , † May 12, 1848 in Mantua , Italy ) was an Austrian officer.

Life

Ulysses Anton Freiherr von Salis-Soglio came from the old Graubünden noble family Salis . He was born the son of the Austrian treasurer Anton Freiherr von Salis Soglio (* October 2, 1760 in Soglio; † September 13, 1831 in Innsbruck ) and his wife Elisabeth Buol von Strassberg (* 1763; † 1834).

Already in his early youth he became a soldier and rose to Colonel in Infantry Regiment No. 25 under Gustav von Wocher . He was called from active service to court service and was chamberlain and court master with Prince Leopold of Archduke Rainer of Austria in Milan. In August 1846, Ulysses Anton Freiherr von Salis-Soglio was appointed treasurer and chairman of Archduke Sigismund of Austria .

Due to the Italian aspirations for independence, which should lead to national self-determination, Ulysses Anton Freiherr von Salis-Soglio was brought back into active service as Major General in 1848. In the battle of Santa Lucia near Verona , in which the Austrians fought against the Piedmontese, he was so badly wounded on May 6, 1848 that he died of his injury on May 12, 1848.

He converted from the Zwinglian faith to the Catholic faith on March 5, 1845 .
