The Kassel School of landscape and open space planning is since the 1970s by Karl-Heinrich Hülbusch and employees (including Inge Meta Hülbusch and Helmut Evil) at the Polytechnic / University of Kassel worked out theory of landscape and open space planning, their object of his respect Aspects of use and examined from the perspective of its social significance . The Kassel School is not identical to the Department of Architecture, Urban and Landscape Planning at the University of Kassel. The open space planning of the Kassel school is mainly based on the self-sufficiency concept of Leberecht Migge and has transferred it to the everyday production of reproduction and autonomy in use. Accordingly, the local economy and the social disposal of natural productive forces are also addressed in landscape planning .

Regarding the method , the Kassel School is distinguished by the indicative scientific working method , the hermeneutics of everyday life and the use of vegetation science , with the help of which it has developed typological methods for the comprehensible mapping of open spaces (houses, gardens, streets, quarters, settlements). Research results of the Kasseler Schule are published by the working group Freiraum und Vegetation in the series "Notebook of the Kasseler Schule".
