Kassensturz is a short story by Gabriele Wohmann that appeared in 1989 in the Luchterhand collection of the same name in Hamburg .

The title is ambiguous. On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of her engagement to office worker Dennis, Winifred is first reviewing a quarter of a century because she wants to squeeze the quintessence for the fiancé between the lines of a self-made poem. Two verses are already there:
- "In the evening you asked me -
- I said yes to everything . "
Second, there is their grown-up son Tanno, who looks over his mother's shoulder as she applies for aid. The eponymous word slips away from him, pronounced as a question.
Winifred makes her financial contribution to the “family” of three; runs a small jeans shop with her friend Bruni, rather unlucky. Tanno, however, is getting wet; borrows the car from the good-natured mother. The businesswoman Winifred, who is not used to success, gives her VW Golf - albeit reluctantly - every day. Alert the egoist Tanno? The mother does not have the necessary energy. The problem: How can the aversion to the biological son be overcome? Winifred distracts himself; done the hated housework, annoyed. Dennis persuades his long-term fiancé that life is good and puts his finger on the wound: Winifred is fluffing up every trifle. The retirement of his father Dennis is in sight. There's this birthday wish list that Winifred has to write because - the oh so good-natured - Dennis wants to buy a present. After all, Winifred wants Dennis: “Not a cabal. But love. "
