Katō Daisuke
Katō Daisuke ( Japanese 加 東 大 介 , actually Katō Tokunosuke ( 加藤 徳 之 助 ); * February 18, 1911 ; † July 31, 1975 ) was a Japanese actor who appeared in over 150 films, including Kurosawa Akira's The Seven Samurai (as the faithful comrade Shichiroji), Rashomon , Yojimbo , Ikiru , and Hiroshi Inagaki's samurai trilogy .
Career
Katō Tokunosuke comes from a family of actors. His older brother is the actor Sawamura Kunitarō , his older sister Sawamura Sadako . In 1933 he became a member of the Zenshinza Theater Company and appeared under the stage name Ichikawa Enji ( 市 川 莚 司 ) in a number of plays and films, including Mizoguchi Kenji's 47 Rōnin . After the end of World War II , he returned from New Guinea to Japan and performed under the name Katō Daisuke.

Katō's nephews are the actors Tsugawa Masahiko and Nagato Hiroyuki . His son Katō Haruyuki married the costume designer and daughter of Kurosawa Akira, Kurosawa Kazuko .
