Katagogion

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Katagogion ( Greek  καταγώγιον , also Katagogeion καταγωγεῖον , from κατάγω katago "to stop in") referred to an inn , inn or hostel in ancient Greece .

Is known

  • the Leonidaion in Olympia , a large and well-preserved ancient hotel complex, and
  • the Katagogeion in Epidauros , the largest building in the city, which, as the hostel for the Asclepius shrine , was more of a kind of spa hotel.

The interpretation and classification of archaeological findings as a catagogue is naturally difficult. For example, the so-called "Katagogeion" in Kassope is now interpreted as a market building.
