The disaster control decoration (Saarland) was donated on November 22, 2007 by the state parliament of the state of Saarland .

Reason for award and group of awardees

The badge of honor serves to recognize merits in voluntary work in the field of non-police hazard prevention (disaster control, civil defense and the rescue service) and can be awarded to:

Classification of levels and their requirements

The badge of honor is awarded in two stages:

  • 1st stage in silver as a ribbon medal: for special services in disaster control, civil defense or in the rescue service
  • 2nd level in gold as a cross connector : for particularly courageous and determined assistance at risk to one's own life or health in the event of disasters, major disasters or other emergencies.

The recipient of the award must also be worthy of the honor and need not be in possession of German citizenship in order to be awarded.

Proposal and award procedure

The proposals that should lead to the award of the honorary mark are only incumbent on the bodies entitled to make proposals:

  1. for members of the fire brigades: the state fire inspector, the fire inspector and the municipalities
  2. for members of the aid organizations: the organizations concerned themselves
  3. For members of the THW: Landesverband Hessen, Rheinland-Pfalz and Saarland as well as the offices in Saarbrücken and Merzig as well as the local branches of the THW in Saarland
  4. for members of management units and other associations: the lower disaster control authorities of Saarland

The final decision as to whether the badge is awarded is made on behalf of the state government by the Minister of the Interior and Sport. With the award of the honorary mark, a certificate is presented, whereby the honorary mark itself becomes the property of the person lent. In the event of the owner's death, the honorary badge remains as a souvenir of his survivors.

Characteristics - form and way of wearing the badge of honor

nature

The badge of honor consists of an isosceles white enameled, green bordered cross with curved three-pointed edges in the manner of a widened Pisan cross. The Saarland's coat of arms is placed in the middle. A silver-colored or gold-colored leaf ornament grows out of the four indentations of the cross and the corners of the edges, depending on the level awarded. The back of the badge bears the words in raised letters: For help in need / Saarland .

Strap color and way of wearing

The medal of honor of the 1st level is worn on a green and white ribbon with a silver border as a ribbon medal on the left side of the chest. The first step is also a cross on the left breast pocket. What both levels have in common is that the original size should only be worn on festive occasions. The ribbon buckle can be worn for the service uniform, whereby a ribbon buckle with the color of the medal ribbon, but with a gold border, was also created for the 2nd stage (cross-connector).

Revocation of the award

The badge of honor can be withdrawn again if the holder appears unworthy of the award due to his later behavior, in particular due to the commission of criminal offenses, or if such reasons only became known later after the award. The Ministry of the Interior and Sport will withdraw the badge after hearing the person concerned.
