The Katharinenkloster Krakės (lit. Krakių Šv. Kotrynos vienuolynas ) is a Catholic monastery of Catherine of Alexandria in Krakės , Kėdainiai district , in the Kaunas Archdiocese , Lithuania . It is located 21 km northwest of the city of Kėdainiai .

history

The Katharinenkloster was founded in 1645. The initiator and funder was Jerzy Tyszkiewicz (1596–1656), Bishop of Lower Lithuania . A church was also built here in 1692. In 1668 Bishop Kazimieras Pacas invited some nuns from Warmia . The mother monastery was in Braunsberg . In 1722 a new monastery was built in Krakės. In 1948 the monastery in Soviet Lithuania was closed and opened again in 1997.
