The Roman Catholic Cathedral of Saint Vincent de Paul ( Arabic كاتدرائية القديس فنسون دو بول بتونس) is a cathedral church dedicated to Saint Vincent Depaul in the Tunisian capital Tunis . The church is currently headed by Archbishop Ilario Antoniazzi .

The 19th century cathedral is the seat of the Archdiocese of Tunis and is located on Independence Square in the new town between avenue Habib Bourguiba and avenue de France , opposite the statue of Ibn Chaldūn and the French embassy.

history

The Vinzenzkirche had to be built because the condition of St. Ludwig's Cathedral, which was only built in 1881, deteriorated due to inadequate foundations. Construction began in 1893, and the cathedral opened on Christmas 1897. The neo-Romanesque architecture of the building combines oriental , neo-Gothic and neo-Byzantine elements inside . Initially, the building still had wooden bell towers due to a lack of money.
