Cathedral of the Seven Sorrows of Mary in Jiangbei
The Cathedral of the Commemoration of the Seven Sorrows of Mary in Jiangbei ( Chinese 江 北岸 圣母 七 苦 主教 座 堂 , Pinyin Jiāngběi Àn Shèngmǔ Qīkǔ Zhǔjiào Zuòtáng , English Cathedral of Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows ) is a Catholic episcopal church ( diocese of Ningpo ) Ningbo , Zhejiang Province , China.
It is also known simply as the Catholic Church of Ningbo ( Chinese 江北 天主教堂 , Pinyin Jiāngběi Tiānzhǔ Jiàotáng ).
history
The bishopric has been vacant since 1967 .
The church was first built in 1713 during the Qing Dynasty and has been rebuilt several times. The current architecture in neo-Gothic style dates from 1872, the tower from 1890.
Since 2006 it has been on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China in Zhejiang (6-945).
In 2014 there was a serious fire that left only the outer walls and the tower standing.
