education

In close cooperation with the primary school at the cathedral , musical training usually begins very early. A musical focus and choir rehearsals in everyday school life promise early and targeted support. The young people develop the basis for a sound and literary spectrum of a youth choir through the choirs of the elementary school at the cathedral, the Aufbauchore and the equal-part choirs (girls' choir at Trier Cathedral, Trier Domsingknaben) of cathedral music.

A direct entry into the cathedral youth choir is also possible from the age of 12 with appropriate knowledge or previous experience in singing.

tasks

The focus of the musical work is on the organization of services on Sundays and public holidays in Trier Cathedral, the oldest bishop's church in Germany, either alternately or together with the other cathedral music choirs. In addition, the choir performs very regularly in concert. The focus of the repertoire is on choral music a cappella with special emphasis on the music of the 20th and 21st centuries. By frequently turning to the oratorio, the young people experience the whole range of symphonic, sacred choral music. In recent years they have performed Bach's St. John Passion, St. Matthew Passion and Christmas Oratorio, the Requien by Brahms, Mozart and Fauré, Bruckner's D minor Mass, Frank Martin's “In terra pax”, Mendelssohn's Psalm 42 and Handel's Messiah.

Concert tours

The Cathedral Youth Choir makes regular guest appearances in the major cathedrals in the country and often works with orchestras such as the State Youth Orchestra of the Saarland, the German State Philharmonic Ludwigshafen or the Concerto Cologne . Concert tours have taken the choir to France, Austria and Spain so far. Other highlights of choir life include an eleven-day concert tour with eight performances in and around Vancouver / Canada in summer 2014, a concert tour to southern England in spring 2016 and a 14-day concert tour to South Africa in summer 2017 with concerts from Johannesburg to Cape Town.
