Katherine Scholes

Katherine Scholes (born July 5, 1959 in Tanzania ) is an Australian writer.

Life

Katherine Scholes was born on a mission in Tanzania . After spending much of her childhood there, she moved to England and then to Tasmania , where she now lives with her husband, filmmaker Roger Scholes, and their two sons.

In 1996 she became known in Germany with her first children's book “Sams Wal” (“The boy and the Whale”). For her debut she received the Whitley Book Award and was shortlisted for the Australian Children's Book Prize. Katherine Scholes received the New South Wales State Literary Award for "The Blue Chameleon" . Scholes' novels "The Dream Dancer" and "The Rain Queen" are international bestsellers. Her novels are almost exclusively about the relationship between mother and daughter.

With her husband, she made feature films set in Tasmania.
