Catholic Academy Schwerte

The Catholic Academy Schwerte Bildungsstätte of the Archdiocese of Paderborn is an institution for Catholic adult education in the Archdiocese of Paderborn . It is part of the twenty-four German Catholic academies and has its seat in Schwerte . The sponsor is the Diocesan Council of Catholics in the Archdiocese of Paderborn.

history

The academy was founded in 1967 by the Archbishop of Paderborn Lorenz Cardinal Jaeger . The “Kardinal-Jaeger-Haus” academy building, which was inaugurated in 1970, has conference rooms of various sizes (up to 200 people) and the corresponding training, conference, overnight and catering infrastructure, and was deliberately built on the southern edge of the Ruhr area, near the Dortmund city limits.

The building complex with its compact, diverse and multifaceted structure develops on an irregular, polygonal floor plan and finds its center in an inner courtyard. The two-story hall and chapel are striking. The architect was Hans Haas (1931–1989) from Aachen.

Peter Klasvogt has headed the academy since 2006.

Main topics and forms of work

The academy aims to actively shape the dialogue between church and society. It is an adult education institution recognized according to the NRW Further Education Act .

The program has the following four departments:

Forms of work are meetings and seminars, study conferences, workshops and training courses, multi-day holiday academies in Germany and abroad. The offers are used by various initiatives from church and society.

The Society for the Promotion of the Catholic Academy Schwerte eV supports the work of the Academy. Together with the Campus-Weggemeinschaft eV , the “COMMUNIO Prize for Dialogue, Understanding and Reconciliation” is awarded to personalities every two years.

The academy publishes several series.
