Catholic Academy

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Catholic academies are educational institutions supported by the Roman Catholic Church in the German-speaking area .

The Catholic academies in Germany emerged after the experiences of National Socialism, World War II and the extermination of the Jews as a concern of committed Christian men and women to help shape the necessary rebuilding of intellectual, social and political life in Germany from the spirit of the Gospel and the Judeo-Christian tradition. Experiences from the cultural and political Catholicism of the Weimar period ( Romano Guardini et al.) Were inspiring here, as was the example of the Evangelical Academy Bad Boll, which was founded in 1945 .

The first Catholic Academy was founded in 1951 in the Rottenburg-Stuttgart diocese . After the fall of the wall in 1989, foundations also took place in eastern Germany ( Berlin , Dresden , Erfurt , Magdeburg ).
