The Evangelical Academy Bad Boll is the oldest of the Evangelical Academies that were newly established in Germany after the Second World War . Your seat is the health resort Bad Boll at the foot of the Swabian Alb. The aim of the academy work is to lead the dialogue between “church and society” at the “third place”. Every year the academy organizes around 200 conferences and is involved in around 1,000 other events in Württemberg and nationwide. history

The Evangelical Academy Bad Boll was founded on September 29, 1945, Michaelmas Day . The founders were the regional bishop of the Evangelical Church in Württemberg Theophil Wurm and pastor Eberhard Müller . The symbol of the academy is the bridge .

In the past, the theologians Christoph Bausch (1972–1988), Manfred Fischer (1988–1996), Jo Krummacher (1996–2005) and Joachim L. Beck (2006–2013) were managing directors of the Academy . Well-known study directors were u. a. Siegfried von Kortzfleisch , Wolfgang Böhme , Herta Leistner , Hans-Joachim Thilo and Thomas Schlag .

Important thematic focuses were the dispute over rearmament (1955), feminist theology (from 1979), medicine and justice under National Socialism (from 1982), and lesbian women in the churches (from 1985).

Numerous institutions, laws and initiatives owe their emergence to the discourses in Bad Boll, e. For example, the common spirit campaign , the Christian Press Academy , the Kronberger Kreis , training to become a child's advocate or the literacy association . In 1988 the Ecumenical Initiative Central America was founded here at a vicar's conference , which is active in development policy and human rights work. With international conference projects, the study directors have contributed a great deal to the Academy's reputation as a place of discourse.

In memory of the theologians Christoph Blumhardt and Johann Christoph Blumhardt who worked in Bad Boll, the Academy set up “ Blumhardt's Literature Salon ” in cooperation with the German Literature Archive in Marbach . The Academy celebrates its Foundation Day annually with a “Michaelis Academy”.

Today there are another 18 Protestant and numerous Catholic academies in the area of ​​the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD) . The Evangelical Academy Bad Boll sees itself as a role model and source of inspiration for other conference venues in Austria , Switzerland , Greece, South Korea, Japan and Africa.

In the meantime, more than a million people have attended meetings and events of the “Swabian lateral thinker cell”.

The academy's dialogue teams and specialist teams work in three subject areas:

A twelve-person board of trustees (chairman: Werner Stepanek ) is responsible for filling the management positions and for establishing the budget of the academy; Advisory boards with scientists from various disciplines and representatives of social fields advise the course directors in the subject areas.

The Evangelical Academy Bad Boll is part of the Association of Evangelical Academies in Germany and the Oikosnet Europe.

ecology

The Bad Boll Academy has taken on a pioneering role in the ecological orientation of its housekeeping and has received several awards for this in recent years (e.g. BioStar 2003). In November 2003 the Bad Boll Academy was certified according to the European eco-audit regulation EMAS . The academy is one of ten Protestant and Catholic institutions that are part of the EU-funded project “Sustainable Churches” together with KATE e. V. develop and test the structure of a sustainability management system.
