Werner Stepanek
Werner Stepanek (born August 17, 1952 in Göppingen ) is a German educator and headed the commercial school in Göppingen until 2010. He is involved in various civic activities, including as chairman of the board of trustees of the Evangelical Academy Bad Boll and member of the synod of the Evangelical Church in Germany . In his free time he has gained a national reputation as a steel sculptor.
Professional background
After graduating from high school in Göppingen in 1972, Werner Stepanek studied economics and German in Tübingen, graduating as a teacher at commercial schools. Since 1978 he has been working at the commercial school in Göppingen, which he headed from 1998 to 2010 as senior studies director. In 2008 he laid the foundation stone for a foundation of the Göppingen Commercial School, "Education for the Future", to effectively promote scholarships, research assignments, internships and other things. Cultural events, exhibitions and concerts help finance the foundation.
voluntary work
From 1977 to 1996 Stepanek was chairman of the SPD in the Göppingen suburb of Faurndau . From 1979 to 2000 he was city councilor in Göppingen and from 1995 to 2000 chairman of the SPD parliamentary group. For the municipal council elections in 2000 he no longer made himself available to have enough time for other activities.
Since 2008 Stepanek has been a member of the 14th Synod of the Evangelical Church in Württemberg and a member of the Synod of the Evangelical Church in Germany . He is also the chairman of the board of trustees of the Evangelical Academy Bad Boll . Since 2010 he has been the chairman of the EKD's standing committee "Education, Training and Youth".
In his spare time, Stepanek has been working as a steel sculptor since 1978. He participated in numerous competitions. Stepanek's works in public space are in front of the Zeppelin School in Leinfelden-Echterdingen, in the vocational school center “auf dem Säer”, Nürtingen, on the old Bad-Ditzenbach-Gosbach railway line and in front of the Youth House in Göppingen. His “Labora” has been on the Wein-Panorama-Weg in Heilbronn since 2002 . In 2001 Stepanek founded the Alter Farrenstall Faurndau initiative , of which he is chairman. In the meantime the dilapidated building has become a cultural center. In Göppingen-Faurndau, Werner Stepanek runs a gallery for contemporary art in the former “Notkirchlein”.
