Thomas Schlag

Thomas Schlag (born December 15, 1965 in Stuttgart ) is a Protestant theologian and professor of practical theology at the University of Zurich .

Biographical and theological career

After attending the Evangelical Seminars in Maulbronn and Blaubeuren , Schlag passed his Abitur in 1985 and spent a year of church and social affairs in Cardiff (GB). From 1986 to 1993 he studied Protestant theology and political science in Tübingen and Munich . From 1993 to 1996 he was an assistant at the chair for systematic theology / ethics in Munich and obtained his doctorate with a dissertation on the practical theologian and business ethicist Martin von Nathusius . After years of vicariate in Bad Boll and pastoral work in Mühlacker , from 2000 to 2004 he was pastor and director of studies at the Evangelical Academy in Bad Boll with a focus on socio-political youth education.

Numerous publications on religious education and youth theology as well as youth policy issues and current educational policy attracted widespread attention. Since then, Schlags has focused on religious and political education (with special attention also on Swiss educational development), youth research , education for democracy and human rights education, school mediation and professional orientation, as well as children's Bibles as media for Protestant education. From 2004 to 2005 Schlag received a habilitation scholarship from the German Research Foundation (DFG) at the University of Tübingen until he took up an assistant professorship for practical theology (religious education / cybernetics) at the theological faculty of the University of Zurich in 2005 , which was converted into a full professorship in 2011 has been.
