academy
As a Catholic academy in the form of a folk high school , the Jakobushaus offers a wide range of educational offers on religious, historical, cultural and political topics. Sports, games and meeting rooms, a house chapel and garden are available for leisure, as well as a footpath to the nearby city center and hiking trails in the Harz foothills .
building
The nucleus of the building complex is the Villa Alberti , the representative residential building of the industrial Alberti family built in 1901 in the eclectic style of the late Empire . After sale and various uses, it was acquired in 1958 by the St. Jakobus community as a parish home and educational center - hence the name Jakobushaus . After the transition to the sponsorship of the diocese, the first extension was built in 1974/75. Further guest and group rooms as well as the octagonal house chapel named after Saint Norbert were built in 1985/86.
