The St. Hildegard Catholic School, founded in 1971, is a state-recognized primary and secondary school for children and young people with specific needs in the Marienfelde district of Berlin . The school is named after the canonized church teacher Hildegard von Bingen . The school has been part of the Lankwitz-Marienfelde pastoral area since 2017 . The school authority is the Archdiocese of Berlin .

School specifics

The school was specially created for children and young people who are unable to attend a "normal" primary or secondary school due to illnesses such as asthma and heart disease or physical disabilities.

The school teaches according to the Berlin framework plans for elementary and secondary schools, which apply to all schools of this level in Berlin. Religious instruction is an integral part of the timetable.

The main advantage of the school is the small class sizes with a maximum of 14 students per class. In addition, since each class is almost always supervised by two teachers, the educators are able to deal particularly intensively and individually with each student.

In addition to imparting knowledge, the school is also concerned with health-promoting measures such as physiotherapy and speech therapy . The facilities include a heated swimming pool. There are also offers in the area of vocational preparation measures for secondary school students, which are usually implemented by the employed social worker . The staff also includes an employed school psychologist.

Others

In the school foyer there is a wooden sculpture of Saint Hildegard von Bingen , created by the sculptor Wolfgang Kleinsteuber , who worked as an art teacher at the school. In her hands she holds an open book with the inscription "Know the ways", which refers to her main work Scivias ("Know the ways").
